New 2013 Range Rover – Spy Video

For those of you who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new 2013 Range Rover, here’s a spy video of a prototype thundering around the Nurburgring.

Disguised as a huge zebra it’s still possible to recognise the traditional Range Rover shape despite the heavy camouflage.

The new 2013 Range Rover is built on a new platform which is rumoured to be based on the foundations of the Jaguar XJ.

In the future, the new Range Rover platform will be used for the next generation Range Rover Sport and other Land Rover models.

With that in mind, it has been revised to provide it with even greater off-road prowess.

It also features a higher proportion of aluminium in order to cut the kerbweight of the large 4×4.

If reports are to be believed, the weight could drop by up to 500 kg.

And it certainly shows.

The prototype looks rapid and well controlled around the corners of the Nurburgring despite its obvious size.

Previously we reported that the new Range Rover design would be based on the recently launched Range Rover Evoque.

From initial impressions the new Super SUV looks more like the current Range Rover than the new Evoque.

But if you view the prototype from the rear, the Evoque styling cues become apparent.

Unlike the existing rear pillars which are almost vertical, the rear windscreen appears to be more raked while the roof slopes backward like the Evoque.

The new Range Rover is expected to offer a range of both petrol and diesel engines similar to the current model, updated for greater fuel economy and lower emissions.

A new hybrid powered version is also a distinct possibility.

Expected to cost up to £100,000 the new 2013 Range Rover will make its debut late next year before going on sale in 2013.

But while you wait, let’s have your opinion on the spy video.
