Good news for UK manufacturing. McLaren Automotive has expanded to North America and Canada.
And to celebrate the arrival of the MP4-12C stateside they’ve released a special video of their supercar on the mean streets of Baltimore.

It shows the MP4-12C driving off the cargo vessel in the port of Baltimore. It also includes shots of the supercar cruising through the key American cities where McLaren hopes to sell their wares.
Global Expansion
The arrival of McLaren in America is a crucial step for the UK brand which plans to launch a new model or variant in the North American market every year.
US pricing for the MP4-12C starts at $229,000 and will be available from nine dealerships in the US.

The MP4-12C
And for those of you who have been away from humanity for the past few years, the MP4-12C is McLaren’s first road going car since the F1 from the mid-nineties.
Thanks to a 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo producing 592bhp and lots of carbon fibre to keep the weight down to just 1,300 kg, it’s rather quick.
Linked to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, 62 mph arrives in 3.3 seconds, 124 mph appears in 9.1 seconds and it keeps pulling all the way to 205 mph.
Spec the optional Pirelli PZero Corsa tyres and these times drop to 3.1 and 8.9 seconds respectively.
The quarter mile is dispatched in just 10.9 seconds at 134 mph and it can stop from 62 mph in just 100 feet – which is amazing.
It holds an unofficial lap time of 7 minutes 28 seconds at the Nurburgring and at the time of writing is the second fastest car around the Top Gear test track with a time of 1 minute 16.2 seconds.
The Future
The people at McLaren Automotive deserve tremendous credit for having created a global distribution network in such a short space of time.
They’re also working on a convertible version of the MP4-12C in order to expand their range of products.
Let’s hope they can continue to broaden their customer base and then roll on the real uber car – the genuine F1 replacement and Bugatti Veyron rival.
Even although most people can’t afford them, every McLaren sold around the world will benefit UK plc…and we get to watch videos of all this vastly expensive supercar exotica.
